Bluebottle Kiss
I never thought I would be teaching again after leaving China, but not even a week in Australia and I’ve already been to school over here. Steve’s friend Chris, a Belgian beer-loving middleschool teacher, thought it would be great for the students of year one to get to know more about the world, so I introduced them to Belgium today. Talked a little bit about the Belgian flag, neighbouring countries and the euro’s, after which the students themsemves got to ask questions, and they were adorable. “What clothes and shoes to you wear there” and “what do you eat on your fries” were pretty good questions I think for 7 year olds, and for a moment I was tempted to tell them we don’t wear shoes at all, but then again...When I told them we eat a lot of chocolate they all went “ooooooooooooooooooh”. They all got to paint the Belgian flag and in the afternoon Chris passed by with a thank you card from all the students…cute cute cute. At night we went to see a concert of a band called Bluebottle kiss, which was ok but extremely loud and since the sound system wasn’t all that I heard the strangest lyrics ever, like ‘I’ll won’t cut my hair untill you fall’ and some other, far more indecent stuff as well, but it was fun. We finished off our evening of too many beers and shots-without-hands with a true turkish pitta (yeah) and a long walk in the rain, though at the time I actually didn’t realize it was raining. First night out in australia…
